François Choquette working to debunk the diability tax credit
December 1st, 2014 - 11:09am
MP François Choquette has committed to help constituents in his riding better understand the federal Disability Tax Credit (DTC) and pointed to the example of Drummondville’s Mariotti family, whose daughter is living with a serious handicap.
“The Mariottis heard about the DTC for the first time when they attended an information session organized by my team for Drummond residents,” said Choquette. “The Mariottis are not alone – I’ve come to realize that many eligible citizens remain unaware of the federal tax credit. Of course, there is no doubt that they could use the tax break on their annual income.”
Mr. Mariotti mentioned during the session that despite repeated attempts to consult with various public accountants, he was never made aware of the breadth of the DTC. “It was only after Mr. Choquette’s information session that we were able to begin the application process, and only a few weeks later, we began receiving a significant retroactive sum to cover the last 10 years,” added Mariotti.”
Choquette was also able to confirm that another information session will be held on April 15, 2015 in Drummondville. All individuals interested in taking part in the meeting are encouraged to contact François Choquette’s riding office at 819-477-3611 for more information.
